Planning a Colorado trip with your pup? You’re in luck — this state is packed with outdoor adventures where dogs are more than welcome. But if you’re looking for something a little different than the usual hike or dog park, we’ve got you covered.
Here are our favorite dog-friendly things to do in Colorado — including one most people don’t even know exists.
1. Drive Your Own Jeep on a Guided 4×4 Tour (Yes, With Your Dog)
This isn’t your typical ride-along Jeep tour. At Native Jeeps, YOU drive the Jeep while one of our expert guides leads the way — and yes, your well-behaved dog is welcome to ride along!
Our tours go deep into the Rockies on scenic, remote trails near Denver and Vail. It’s perfect for adventurous dog owners looking to get off the beaten path (without needing any off-roading experience). Just let us know in advance that you’re bringing a pup — we’ll help make sure everyone’s safe and comfy.
Dogs love the breeze, the fresh mountain air, and all the new smells. Just bring water, a leash, and a towel for the ride home!
Colorado is full of breweries that love dogs as much as they love beer. Some of our favorites:
Outer Range Brewing (Frisco): Mountain views + craft beer + off-leash dog patio = yes please.
Westbound & Down (Idaho Springs): Right near our Jeep tours. Great food, great beer, and a dog-friendly patio.
Avery Brewing (Boulder): Massive outdoor space where dogs are always welcome.
3. Stroll Around Echo Lake
Just outside of Idaho Springs, Echo Lake Park is a scenic, dog-friendly spot for a chill walk with incredible views of Mount Evans. It’s also a great spot for a picnic or a pre-tour leg-stretch.
Leashes required, but dogs love the fresh air and squirrels. Echo Lake vibes. Dogs love Colorado lakes as much as we do.
4. Camp Under the Stars
Camping in Colorado is a dream for dog owners. Look for pet-friendly sites like:
Idaho Springs RV Resort(Right next to Native Jeeps!) pet-friendly RV and tent camping, walking distance to our Jeep tours
It’s a great basecamp if you’re planning a Jeep tour and want a comfortable, pet-friendly place to stay nearby.
-15 minutes from Echo Lake & Mount Evans -Walk to Jeep tour check-in from your campsite
Bonus: Ride the Breckenridge Gondola With Your Dog
Here’s a fun surprise — dogs are welcome on the BreckConnect Gondola in Breckenridge! It’s free to ride, and leashed dogs can join you for the scenic lift up to Peaks 7 and 8.
The ride is quick, the views are stunning, and it’s a great way to give your pup a mountain-top experience without a long hike. Once you’re up there, explore the base area, grab a snack, and take some mountain selfies with your four-legged co-pilot.
Operates mid-June through mid-September
Dogs must be on a leash
