Jeep Carpet Removal for Doors-Off Season

Thinking About Taking the Doors Off Your Jeep? Here’s Why We Take the Carpets Out, Too.

Every summer at Native Jeeps, we run our Jeeps “naked”—top off, doors off, wide open to the mountain air. But here’s a tip most people don’t think about until their floors are trashed: we take the carpets out for the whole season.

Wait… What? No carpets?? Are you crazy?!

Maybe. But this little prep trick saves us so much cleanup. If you’ve ever run doors-off for more than a weekend, you already know the deal: dust, dirt, pine needles, dog hair, snack crumbs, and mystery grit settle deep into your carpets. And once it’s in there? It’s in there.

So here’s the hack: pull your carpets for the summer, store them clean and dry, and pop them back in for winter. Boom—longer carpet life, easier post-ride cleanup, and a more rugged, ready-for-anything Jeep.

No Carpets in Jeep

Here’s How to Remove Your Jeep Carpets:

  • Each carpet section is separate and mostly held in place by seat bolts and snaps.

  • Some seat bolts may need to be loosened (or fully removed).

  • Once out, store the carpets somewhere dry and rodent-free.

  • Bonus: the Jeep’s painted tub actually looks really cool exposed—especially on our white JL nicknamed “Christmas.”

In our case, we had factory carpet plus rubber mats layered on top. Just note: some floor mat anchors may sit too high without the carpet, so a little trimming or adjusting may be needed.

Things You Might Notice When the Carpet’s Gone:

  • The floor gets louder. (But hey, it’s a Jeep.)

  • The plastic HVAC tubes for rear seat airflow become visible. These are pretty durable—we haven’t seen one break yet.

  • A few metal spots near the engine tunnel might get warm, but nothing alarming.

Pro Tip: Lock It Up

No doors means no security—so if you’re daily driving or leaving the Jeep unattended, a locking center console is a great idea. We’ve used this one from Tuffy:

We also used to bolt a locking plastic tub in the back—perfect for things that are valuable enough to keep, but not valuable enough to haul back and forth every time.

Why Does This Matter to You?

At Native Jeeps, we run doors-off Jeeps all summer—and now you can, too. On our YOU-Drive Jeep tours, you drive our professionally outfitted Jeeps through real Colorado 4×4 terrain. You’ll learn how to drive, how to prep, and yes… even how to strip down your Jeep like a pro.
