Vail Valley: where history meets breathtaking landscapes

Before the arrival of the ski industry, Vail Valley was rooted in the mining boom of the late 19th century.

The remnants of this rugged era can still be seen in the historic towns and old mines scattered throughout the valley.

During World War II, the valley was the training ground for the legendary 10th Mountain Division, an elite group of soldiers trained in mountain warfare.

The soldiers underwent rigorous training at Camp Hale, which had the challenging environment needed to prepare them for deadly combat in the Alps.

Who made Vail Jeep trails?

The miners of the 1800s were hard men blazing paths through hard rock. The first to trod would have been a lone miner with his trusted donkey. Then came the donkey trains, expanding the trails wider.

Following the miners, the 10th Mountain Division trained in the harsh, mountainous terrain of Camp Hale. They used the rugged trails and old mining roads to conduct their exercises.

After the war, many veterans of the 10th Mountain Division returned to Colorado, inspired by the mountains they had trained in.

Education & Protection

Jeep trails are National Forest public lands. We all own these forests and the roads that access them.

The Forest Service maintains and preserves the trails, ensuring they remain accessible for off-road adventurers while protecting the natural environment.

With so much public land we must be entrusted to protect and maintain these resources for our future generations.

Our mission is to educate every client to be a good forest steward and to spread that knowledge forward.

We had a very enjoyable time in our jeep. My fiancé and I were in one Jeep following our two guides in another Jeep. It was a very scenic trip, up a trail that brought us to the top of an 11,000+ foot mountain with dramatic views. Our route was challenging but still manageable. I’ve never done this before and really had a great time. Our guides were very knowledgeable and friendly.

Fantastic day with our guide Brenden. My wife, daughter and I all got a chance to experience 4x4 off-roading in Colorado. Beautiful views amidst a safe-but-thrilling tour. You drive yourself—it’s awesome.

We are a family of five and my three kids (ages 16, 11, and 7) all fit in the back just fine for the full day tour. Also—what a great experience for my 16 year old while she’s learning to drive!

Stop thinking about it and book—it’s completely worth it—money well spent! You get to experience all the fun of four-wheeling without any of the stress of breaking your own vehicle or figuring out where to go. I recommend the full day tour—if you only do half a day, you’ll kick yourself!

WOW. What an experience! I’m from Australia, and it has always been my dream to visit Colorado and do a mountain adventure. This experience with Native Jeeps definitely ticked the box and surpassed all my expectations. From the start to the end, we were looked after so well.

We started out in their business shop, and from there, we were already driving the Jeeps ourselves. We all had walkie-talkies which were fun, and we got to learn so much about the town and mountain. The best part was some of the challenging drives we did, and the tour guides helped us navigate this.

I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a really fun and unique adventure!!
